Resumo: The past decade has seen significant growth in the study of internationalization, but few studies offer a humanized perspective on university exchanges in Brazil (Stallivieri, 2017; Reis; Romero, 2021; Santos, 2021). Exchanges are linked to cultural and socioeconomic development as they reshape the social role of education in various social spheres (Landim,2022). This research aims to explore and reflect on exchange students' perceptions regarding identity construction and interculturality processes. To achieve this, the study addresses the following questions: (1) What challenges did the exchange students face?; (2) What were their most relevant learning experiences? and (3) How do they perceive their identity construction as a result of the exchange? The theoretical framework draws on Narrative Research (Pavlenko, 2007; Barcelos, 2020), Identity Construction (Hall, 2000; Block, 2007), and Interculturality (Weissmann, 2018; Byram; Gribkova; Starkey, 2002). The corpus, composed of transcribed interviews, was analyzed using Systemic Functional Linguistics – SFL (Fuzer;Cabral, 2014) and the Appraisal System (Martin; White, 2005), highlighting cultural values and identity transformations through interpretations grounded in each exchange student’s intercultural competencies. This study underscores the role of Narrative Research, Identity Construction, and Interculturality in addressing the hegemonic movements of globalization and contributes to both individual and collective goals linked to professional success by fostering the development of public and private policies. Therefore, the results indicate identity transformations regarding the acquisition of scientific knowledge, learning foreign languages, the expansion of personal and collective intercultural awareness, and academic benefits. These highlight the role of exchange programs in valuing public policies and global social practices, as well as in transforming knowledge within non-traditional linguistic studies, enabling greater recognition of teaching proposals, academic mobility, curriculum, and qualitative research in the fields of interculturality and identity construction through internationalization.

Os intercâmbios estão relacionados ao desenvolvimento cultural e socioeconômico, porque ressignificam a função da educação em diversas esferas sociais (Landim, 2022). Nesse sentido, o objetivo desta pesquisa é conhecer e refletir sobre as percepções de alguns intercambistas no que tange à construção identitária e aos processos de interculturalidade. Tendo isso em vista, a pesquisa responde às seguintes perguntas: (1) quais foram as dificuldades enfrentadas pelos intercambistas?; (2) quais foram as aprendizagens mais relevantes?; e (3) quais foram as percepções dos intercambistas sobre suas construções identitárias resultantes do intercâmbio? A fundamentação teórica baseia-se na pesquisa narrativa (Pavlenko, 2007; Barcelos, 2020), na construção identitária (Hall, 2000, 2006; Block, 2007) e na interculturalidade (Weissmann, 2018; Byram; Gribkova; Starkey, 2002). O corpus composto pela transcrição de entrevistas foi analisado com base na Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional, doravante LSF (Fuzer; Cabral, 2014) e no Sistema de Avaliatividade (Martin; White, 2005), evidenciando valores culturais e transformações identitárias por meio de interpretações, à luz das competências interculturais de cada intercambista. O trabalho ressalta o papel da pesquisa narrativa, da construção identitária e da interculturalidade sobre os movimentos hegemônicos da globalização, além de contribuir para objetivos tanto individuais quanto coletivos relacionados ao sucesso profissional, uma vez que fomentam o crescimento de políticas públicas e privadas no tocante ao tema. Portanto, os resultados apontam transformações identitárias na aquisição de conhecimento científico, no aprendizado de línguas estrangeiras e na ampliação da consciência intercultural pessoal e coletiva.
