The anthropic shares generate a series of changes in urban environments, thus requiring measures to minimize conflicts between both the urban and the rural areas. The main issue to be worked on urban planning for sustainable cities is the soil permeability. The analysis of the physical features of region as well as the soil capacity to absorb the water are extremely important tools to make the implementation of the Permeability Rate (TP) in urban areas. The possibility of mapping the areas with greater water absorption capacity and the definition of the areas where the tools can be used in order to compensate for the non infiltrated volume, reduce undue charges. Therfore the knowledge of soil permeability in the cities is very important in order that urban laws and actions to be adopted to minimize impacts can be outlined. This work was carried out with the objetive of quantifying and assessing the areas classified as permeable in the urban network of the Centenário stream sub-basin in Lavras-MG, analyzing the applicability of the Federal Law n. 6766/79 and assessing the law of use and occupation of the municipality soil. The use of geographical information systems helped the study. Initially the mapping of areas with permeable surfaces and the physical characterization of the sub-basin was held, analyzing the interactions among the slope, soils and land use. In order to study the permeability of the undisturbed soil, samples were collected in the soil layer from 0 to 20 cm, and hydraulic conductivity tests were held using a constant workload permeameter. In order to evaluate the applicability of the Federal Law n. 6766/79, the guidelines provided by the legislation to restrict the city growth were sought. The approppriation of the urban network was characterized by using computational routines. In order to better understand the permeability in the region, the Municipality Law of Use of Occupation of the Soil was referred to find out what the relationship between the TP value and the information about the physical environment is, and yet, to find out whether such a relationship is consistent with the current occupation of the sub-basin.
