With the entrance of women in every segment of work, since the conquests of the feminist movement, it was inevitable that they occupied positions that originally belonged to the masculine universe, among them that of the soldier. However, the insertion of the feminine segment in this universe brought with it a series of issues still occult in gender relations within the military organization, generating a strong resistance from leaders, partners and subordinates concerning the presence of women in a place that, according to men, does not belong to them. In this sense, the present dissertation had the objective to develop a study about symbolic dimension within gender relations in the military organization focusing the enrolled masculine domination and symbolic violence in this place, particularly in the Brazilian Army that admitted the first military women in 1992 to occupy only administrative positions - which prevails up to the present. Through the case study method in the Military School with non-participant observation, and interviews, together with the praxeology of Pierre Bourdieu, the present research sought comprehending the dialectics between social structures (military field) and mental structures (military habitus) that operate in the (re)production of naturalized positions (doxa) and of its internalization (symbolic violence) by the members of the military organization, in particular the military women who are oppressed by a patriarchal inheritance that is strengthened by the characteristics of the military organization, such as: power/distinction, hierarchy/discipline, and honor/tradition. In this direction, the data collected in the field research disclose that, in the optics of the interviewed ones, the Army resists the feminine presence in military activities, particularly in combat, and this resistance is manifested through symbolic power. This invisible power, almost magical, allows getting the equivalent of what is obtained by force, perpetuating the symbolic barriers that hinder the acceptance of women as effective members of the military universe.
