Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the cardiac autonomic response to resistance training in women with stroke. Materials and Methods: This is a non-randomized clinical trial with a sample of 10 women diagnosed with stroke, divided into a control group (CG = 5) and an intervention group (IG = 5). The evaluations and training were performed at the participants' homes. All participants underwent sociodemographic, anthropometric, clinical, physical activity level (IPAQ-short version), quality of life (SF-36), depression, anxiety and stress (EADS) evaluation; heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP) and heart rate variability (HRV) before and after the intervention. The exercise protocol was performed for four weeks, twice a week. The training protocol consisted of five exercises, using Thera Band and the OMNI Resistance Exercise Scale (OMNI-RES) to quantify perceived exertion. The CG did not perform any resistance training intervention in the four weeks. Results: No significant differences were found in the HRV indices before and after GTR: SDNN (p=0.215), RMSSD (p=0.243), LF n.u (p=0.576), HF n.u (p=0.573), LF/HF (p= 0.549), SD1 (p=0.275), SD2 (p=0.237) and before and post GC: SDNN (p=0.187); RMSSD (p=0.159), LF n.u (p=0.882), HF n.u (p=0.761), LF/HF(p=0.448), SD1(p=0.208), SD2 (p=0.297), with the exception of SD2 at T1, where the GTR showed a significant difference, with a higher value (76.3±78.8) than the GC (48.3±37.4), p-value = 0.017. After four weeks, there was a significant difference between the GC and GTR groups in the SF-36 in mental health (p=0.016). In the GTR, strong negative correlations were found between depression and vitality (rho -0.975 p=0.005) and stress and mental health (rho: -0.975 p=0.005), and a strong positive correlation between the level of physical activity and general health status (rho: 0.949, p=0.014). Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that four weeks of resistance training in post-stroke women promoted changes in the SD2 of HRV. In addition, correlations were observed between depression, vitality, stress, mental health, level of physical activity and general health status, indicating that training can influence biopsychosocial and physical factors in the resistance training group. It is recommended that further robust clinical studies with resistance training on the side not affected by stroke in post-stroke women using elastic bands to promote this theme.

Submitted by Jonathan Sousa de Almeida (jonathan.sousa@ufma.br) on 2025-05-08T17:00:22Z No. of bitstreams: 1 ÁVILAFABIANEDEOLIVEIRAFERNANDES.pdf: 2037893 bytes, checksum: 2de191744a55b3174d686e36130d621c (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2025-05-08T17:00:22Z (GMT).
