Resumo: The present study investigates how top managers of Brazilian private retirement planning companies deal with business environment and information sources. It presents the results of a survey which analyzes the perceived change level and the importance attributed by 62 top managers to several aspects of companies external environments. The study also investigates the relevance, reliability, ease of access and frequency of use of several external information sources. The results show that, on the one hand, the quality of information does not have aninfluence on the frequency of use of the sources. On the other hand, the ease of access seems to have a strong influence on selection and use of the information sources. Managers considered clients, regulation and economy as the most important topics from the external environment.

Foram investigados também aspectos relacionados ao uso de diversas fontes de informação, como a freqüência de uso, a relevância, a confiabilidade e a acessibilidade percebidas pelos executivos. De modo geral, constatou-se que, no setor analisado, a qualidade das fontes deinformação não influencia a freqüência de uso das mesmas. Além disso, afacilidade de acesso às fontes emerge como um aspecto que exerce forte influência na seleção e no uso das mesmas.
