This study aims to systematize the understanding of the school community at Escola Estadual Quilombola Tereza Conceição de Arruda, located in the quilombola community of Mata Cavalo, about the climate emergency, through genuine communication production. The methodological conception of the research is based on the Cartography of the Imaginary, whose procedures used to achieve the objectives are based on participant research. Specifically, training processes were developed within the scope of Environmental Education and media production with approximately 20 students from the school institution, with the aim of debating with the community the impacts of the climate emergency in the quilombo, as well as the production of educommunicative materials based on this dialogue. With this, aiming to answer how educommunication could express students' perception and understanding regarding the climate emergency, positive results were achieved. Despite the difficulty in responding to environmental issues, when we offered the activities, students were led to think critically. As they entered into a discussion looking for answers to be recorded on video, they recognized the challenges faced when studying and living in the Quilombola Community. Linked to the educommunication process, we observed that, even without offering any video editing guide, the groups knew how to apply these functions, even without knowledge of the technical terms.
