This research is dedicated to the philological, codicological and paleographic analysis of eighteenth-century manuscripts originating from the occupation of the Mato Grosso region. The general objective of this study is analysis, that is, the investigation of manuscripts through facsimile and semi-diplomatic editions, in addition to Paleographic and Codicological analysis. These folios, which belong to the Public Archive of Mato Grosso (APMT), keep part of the history of the Captaincy of Mato Grosso during the colonial period. To this end, we sought to carry out face-to-face research at the Mato Grosso Public Archive to collect relevant manuscripts and, through bibliographies related to Philology, Paleography and Codicology, understand the process of preparing the writing present in the testimonies. The methodological approach chosen was interdisciplinary, which combines field research in the Public Archive of Mato Grosso, philological, paleographic and codicological analyses, in addition to the bibliographical review of relevant authors who address the mentioned sciences. The results of this research supported by historiography in addition to the other sciences already mentioned brought relevant information about the historical context in which the manuscripts were inserted, such as the realities experienced by the colonizers and their interactions with local and indigenous communities. The manuscripts also brought information about regional history such as the issues of conflicts between Europeans and native peoples and consequently their almost complete extermination; the dispute over land between the Spanish and Portuguese; the hunger and tropical diseases that afflicted those populations; the construction of military buildings. All of this contributed to the understanding of relational occurrences in the decades that preceded the country's independence from Portugal. In conclusion, from the analyzes already mentioned it was possible to perceive the use of different fists, analysis of the type of writing. This study demonstrated the importance of interdisciplinarity between Philology, Paleography, Codicology and Historiography. Philology, although it makes use of Historiography in the analysis of colonial manuscripts, distances itself from itself, since the Historian's research object is the search for an entire social context, the dynamics of social relations, whereas Philology relies on research depth of testimonies.
