Analyzing the novel Ponciá Vicêncio (2017) is the focus of this research, conceived in light of references to the concept of blackness and its manifestations in Brazilian literature produced by black authors. For this purpose, this work emphasizes the historical panorama of black literature in Brazil, its discussions, main milestones, authors, and social contexts that influenced the emergence and evolution of this literary trend, observing the extent to which the paths of Brazilian black literature intersect with black social movements. The choice of this approach is based on the recognition of escrevivência as a powerful network for the production of meaning, which broadens and redefines the very concept of what literature can be. In this approach, I articulate the concepts of escrevivência, ancestry, and memory as analytical tools, drawing on the thinking of Leda Maria Martins (2021) as theoretical and epistemological support. Based on the articulation of these categories of analysis in the work, it was possible to reinforce the existence of a black episteme in literature and also enable a critical reading of post-abolition Brazil from an Afro-diasporic perspective.
