Escola de Minas, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto.O tombamento flexural é um tipo de ruptura comum na região do Quadrilátero Ferrífero em Minas Gerais, onde se situam inúmeras minas. Essas operações têm tido dificuldades em controlar essas rupturas, o que exige que novas abordagens sejam propostas e que mais detalhes sobre o mecanismo sejam conhecidos. Este trabalho pretende investigar o movimento de tombamento flexural em taludes, mais especificamente a formação da superfície basal de ruptura, usando retroanálise em uma simulação por elementos finitos de modelo real e em um procedimento de cálculo de equilíbrio desenvolvido no corpo do trabalho. A simulação computacional de um ensaio real tomado como base alcançou um bom ajuste após algumas modificações nos parâmetros de entrada. A análise dos resultados mostrou que a ruptura da rocha ocorre tanto por tração como por cisalhamento. Ela iniciou sempre no pé do talude e seguiu uma linha reta. Também foi possível notar a importância dos parâmetros pós-pico na análise, geralmente negligenciados nas simulações por sua difícil obtenção. O procedimento de cálculo para estabilidade foi baseado nas equações elaboradas de modo a definir as alturas em que rompem cada coluna, formando um caminho que seria a superfície basal de ruptura. Na simulação paramétrica verificou-se que a maioria das variáveis tem maior influência sobre as colunas superiores, indicando que as colunas inferiores comportam-se como bloco em contraposição às superiores, que se comportam individualmente.The flexural toppling is a common type of failure in the region known as“QuadriláteroFerrífero” (Iron Quadrangle in English),inthe brazilian state of Minas Gerais, where there are numerous mines. These operations have had trouble controlling thosefailures, which requires new approaches andto better understand the mechanism. This study aims to investigate the flexural toppling on slopes, more specifically the formation of the basal surface failure, usingback calculation in a finite element simulation of the actual model and in an equilibrium calculation procedure developed here. The computer simulation of a real test reached a good fit after some changes in the input parameters. The results showed that the rock failure occurs either by tension or by shear. It always started on the slope toeand followed a straight line. It was also noted the importance of post-peak parameters in the analysis, usually neglected in simulations because of the difficult to be obtained. The calculation procedure for stability was based on the equations developed to define the heightsin which each column breaks, forming a path that were taken as the surface of failure.
