Gervásio Maia housing complex (CHGM), João Pessoa/PB, with regard to the possibility of the right to the city. It aims to analyze the implications that receiving housing in Gervásio Maia provides for its residents to access the right to the city. The work began with bibliographic and documentary research in physical and virtual media, in order to support knowledge and understanding of the historical process of production of social housing, in the country and at the municipal level, in the same way to qualify the understanding of the law social basis for human survival. The field research was carried out at CHGM, with questionnaires applied to residents who had lived in the Complex for at least 5 (five) years and who were in the residences at the time of the research, regardless of whether they were original beneficiaries. As a result, the study tended to confirm the research question that housing, in the case of CHGM, could represent an important component of the right to the city. However, the effective structure of socio-spatial segregation that was created with the delivery of housing in CHGM and the insufficient promotion of work and income generation programs for residents, despite the presence of professional courses in the Complex, does not favor access to the effective right to city. Difficulties in urban mobility due to insufficient public transport conditions, particularly reflected in the limitation of buses and integration terminals, which increases as the neighborhood grows in population. However, the same service remains, with overcrowding of the mode, which leads to users not meeting their travel needs, which becomes even more harmful and evident in times of the New Corona virus pandemic that has brought the need for social distancing. Another issue that poses a major obstacle to the right to live and, consequently, the right to the city is the clear impediment to family and community life in public and private spaces, caused by public violence in different spaces, such as squares and other public places.
