This dissertation investigates the artist's book as a creative/educational element capable of enhancing experiences in Visual Arts with children, with the aim of promoting reflective actions on their readings of the world as practices for freedom. To this end, the following objectives were defined: to select artist's books that favor the understanding of significant creative elements such as materiality, space, and narrative; to carry out a creative/educational experience of artist's books with children at the Aloísio Magalhães Museum of Modern Art (MAMAM), in Recife, Pernambuco; and to characterize the artist's book as a creative/educational resource. The inquiry adopts the methodology of Arts-Based Inquiry (IBA), articulated with a libertarian and transgressive educational approach, based on the thoughts of Paulo Freire and bell hooks, considering artistic creation as a means of subjective and autonomous expression for children. It also dialogues with Silvio Gallo's reflections on anarchist social principles as a basis for an education for freedom. The proposed approaches were put into practice in an experience held at MAMAM, which provided a sensitive and reflective space for investigating the language of the artist's book and its conceptual potential as a creative/educational element. Thus, the artist's book proved to be a significant device for art education, promoting creative freedom, critical thinking and strengthening children's relationship with contemporary art and their own modes of expression.
