Para isso, o ponto de partida é a obra magna O mundo como vontade e como representação (1819), sendo o capítulo segundo reservado a tratar dos conceitos de vontade e de representação, seus significados e qual/quais lugar/es ocupam no pensamento único proposto pelo filósofo. O terceiro capítulo, que tem por base as obras Sobre a vontade na natureza (1836), Sobre a liberdade da vontade (1839) e Sobre a quadrúplice raiz do princípio de razão suficiente (1813), trata do conceito de liberdade da vontade no mundo como representação, o qual é regido pelo princípio de razão suficiente e, portanto, está sujeito à causalidade. Isso implica na não existência de liberdade da vontade no mundo como representação, pois toda representação, estando sujeita à causalidade, é necessária. Por fim, o quarto capítulo, a partir do Tomo I (1819) e do Tomo II (1844) d’O mundo, bem como no ensaio Sobre o fundamento da moral (1840), trata dos caminhos propostos, pelo filósofo, para uma liberação por meio da negação da vontade, isto é, caminhos que permitirão ao sujeito minimizar a ação da vontade. Tal experiência acontece não somente por diferentes caminhos, mas também há uma diferença de grau. Dessa forma, espera-se mostrar que, a despeito de reiteradamente afirmar um determinismo para as ações humanas, Schopenhauer também abre espaço para que, por meio da negação da vontade, seja possível experimentar outras relações com a vontade.Abstract: This thesis aims to discuss the concept of freedom of the will and paths to liberation of the will within the scope of Arthur Schopenhauer's philosophy. For this, the starting point is the magnum opus The world as will and as representation (1819), the second chapter being reserved to deal with the concepts of will and representation, their meanings and what place/s they occupy in the proposed single thought by the philosopher. The third chapter, which is based on the works On the Will in Nature (1836), On the Freedom of the Will (1839) and On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason (1813), deals with the concept of freedom of the will in the world as representation, which is governed by the principle of sufficient reason and, therefore, is subject to causality. This implies the non-existence of freedom of the will in the world as representation, since all representation, being subject to causality, is necessary. Finally, the fourth chapter, based on Tome I (1819) and Tome II (1844) of The World, as well as the essay On the Basis of Morality (1840), deals with the paths proposed by the philosopher for a liberation through the denial of will, that is, paths that will allow the individual to minimize the action of will and enjoy moments of quietism. Such experience happens not only through different paths, but there is also a difference in degree.
