Tavares. Os dois elementos – o poder e a violência – foram considerados como eixos temáticos estruturais das obras em questão. Procurou-se, prioritariamente, investigar a sua presença formal nas narrativas, o que se deu por meio da análise dos seguintes aspectos: a guerra e as estruturas político-administrativas como motores do enredo; a voz narrativa e os personagens masculinos centrais. Concomitantemente, a fim de contextualizar os temas do poder e da violência, este estudo se remeteu ao aparato teórico e filosófico proporcionado pelas reflexões de Hannah Arendt. As formulações de Arendt cumprem o papel, neste trabalho, de uma expressão organizada, isto é, de uma interpretação da realidade empírica, realidade com a qual a expressão literária inevitavelmente dialoga e que simultaneamente ajuda a construir. Hannah Arendt.Abstract: This work discusses the representations of power and violence in the novels of the tetralogy O Reino, by contemporary Portuguese writer Gonçalo M. Tavares. Both elements – power and violence – were considered as central and structural themes in these novels. As a priority we aimed to investigate their formal presence in these narratives, which was done through the analysis of the following aspects: the war and the political and administrative structures as motors of the plot; the narrative voice and the main male characters. In order to contextualize the subjects of power and violence this research simultaneously directed itself to the philosophical work of Hannah Arendt. Arendt’s considerations played the role of an organized expression, i. e., an interpretation of the empirical reality, reality which the literary expression inevitably dialogues with and also helps to build.
