In the first decades of the 18th century, the most violent conflicts that occurred in the captaincy of Ceará were linked to the land issue and were undertaken by two families: the Montes family and the Feitosa family and other groups linked to them. Such conflicts became more frequent as the conquest entered the captaincy towards its backlands. This research does not considered, however, that disputes over land it is only a matter of struggles that had as their final objective the physical space, considering that in many cases it is possible to identify different motivations related to honor, social differentiation and power. In this sense, the present work aims to analyze the confrontations between these two families, which were accentuated with the creation of the Siará Grande ombudsman in 1723, so that it can be demonstrated how the conquest of the interior of this captaincy resulted in the exacerbation of the violence and that such space was a direct product of the disputes between the royal power and the actions of the powerful locals.
