O ponto de partida da discussão é a novela Kleider machen Leute (O hábito faz o homem), de 1874, escrita pelo suíço Gottfried Keller. Nesta narrativa de expressão alemã, algumas características da \"coisificação/reificação\" (relações humanas pautadas mais por objetos de consumo que por sentimentos) - preconizada por Karl Marx em O capital (1867) - se sobressaem de forma literária. Denúncia? Apologia? Ou apenas descrição? Na trama, um contramestre alfaiate é confundido com um nobre numa rica cidade, da Suíça diegética de Keller, por trajar um elegante capote. As aparências e a moda-fetiche davam as cartas na sociedade europeia; os suíços, apesar de distantes das grandes capitais industrializadas - Paris e Londres -, encantavam-se também com as maravilhas desse mundo consumista que crescia com a indústria. Além de uma análise do campo semântico relativo ao guarda-roupa da burguesia, entabula-se diálogos com ensaios sobre moda na modernidade e na contemporaneidade que, por conseguinte, permitem uma interpretação mais acurada dessas ligações entre o mundo fashion e o universo literário. A dissertação pensa a fetichização capitalista com o aporte dos estudos de Walter Benjamin sobre o comércio parisiense de luxo e acerca do próprio Keller; a crítica literária de Jacques Rancière a respeito de objetos do dia-a-dia da classe média no Realismo auxilia na elaboração de hipótese na pesquisa: o papel da mercadoria na popularização da literatura.Abstract: This dissertation aims to raise questions about the emergence of the fetish by the commodity - especially clothes - in the texts of bourgeois Realism of the nineteenth century. The starting point of the discussion is the 1874 novel Kleider machen Leute (Clothes make the man), written by the Swiss Gottfried Keller. In this narrative of German expression, some characteristics of ?reification? (human relations based on consumer objects rather than feelings) ? advocated by Karl Marx in Das Kapital (1867) ? stand out in a literary way. Complaint? Apology? Or just description? In the plot, a tailor is mistaken for a nobleman in a rich town of Keller's diegetic Switzerland just for wearing an elegant cloak. Appearances and fashion-fetish were beginning to take their toll in European society; the Swiss people, though far from the great industrialized capitals Paris and London, were also enchanted by the wonders of this fledgling consumer world. In addition to an analysis of the semantic field concerning the bourgeois wardrobe, the research gets into dialogues with essays on fashion in modernity and contemporary times, which thus allow a more accurate interpretation of these links between the fashion world and the literary universe.
