Understand the dynamics of the spatial production circuit of broiler poultry farming, using productive restructuring processes and their socio-spatial implications as a guiding thread, is the main concern of this doctoral thesis. To this end, the Immediate Geographic Region of Nova Prata - Guaporé was chosen as the spatial unit of analysis, which is composed of 14 municipalities, listed below: André da Rocha, Dois Lajeados, Guabiju, Guaporé, Montauri, Nova Araçá, Nova Bassano, Nova Prata, Paraí, Protásio Alves, São Jorge, Serafina Corrêa, União da Serra, and Vista Alegre do Prata. The central question established was the need to understand the unfolding of the spatial circuit of broiler production, as well as to identify the main agents linked to the sector and the importance of this activity for the socio-spatial and economic dynamism of the region. Thus, questions were formulated to understand the spatial repercussions of the sector: How does the spatial circuit of broiler production operate in the Nova Prata – Guaporé Immediate Geographic Region? What is the importance of this productive activity for the socio-economic and spatial dynamics of the region under analysis? Who are the agents responsible for the dynamics of broiler production in the region, and how do they operate? The overall objective is to understand the dynamics of the spatial production circuit of broiler poultry in the Immediate Geographic Region of Nova Prata – Guaporé/RS, on a time scale from 1960 to 2025, identifying its transformations and importance for productive restructuring. Specific objectives include: a) Understand the genesis and evolution of poultry farming in the municipalities that comprise the Immediate Region of Nova Prata – Guaporé; b) Identify who the agents responsible for the poultry production circuit are and how they operate; c) Investigate the processes responsible for the linking of its spatial production circuit; d) Analyze the unfolding of poultry farming in regional productive restructuring, through the mapping of its spatial circuit; and e) Establish the regional and socioeconomic perspectives of broiler poultry farming. Methodologically, the work is structured in stages, described below: a) bibliographic survey regarding the central themes of the thesis, such as productive restructuring, the insertion of poultry farming in the Brazilian agricultural sector, and the spatial circuit of production; b) collection of secondary data regarding the dynamics of regional agricultural production, with emphasis on poultry farms by municipality; c) fieldwork through the application of questionnaires to companies, public bodies, and poultry farmers; and d) organization, analysis, and final writing of the results obtained. It is emphasized that the state of Rio Grande do Sul lacks regional studies on this topic, even though this productive sector is one of its main vectors of development and economic growth. The analysis of the spatial circuit of broiler production carried out in this thesis serves as a basis for studies of the same nature in other productive activities, as well as expanding knowledge of the regional, agrarian, and economic geography of Rio Grande do Sul.
