Resumo: This doctoral thesis aimed to investigate how the innovative behavior of employees in companies located in Science and Technology Parks (STPs) influences the promotion and implementation of potential disruptive innovations in the Brazilian context. The study was based on the premise that, although STPs are conceived as environments that foster innovation, there are still uncertainties regarding their effectiveness in generating disruptive innovations and, above all, concerning the role of employees’ innovative behavior as a necessary factor in this process. Methodologically, a mixed-methods approach was adopted, with 18 in-depth interviews conducted with managers, analyzed through content analysis, and the application of structured questionnaires to a final sample of 365 employees from resident companies, analyzed using structural equation modeling. The qualitative stage made it possible to capture detailed perceptions from managers, which also supported the development of original scales, while the quantitative stage enabled the statistical validation of the instruments and the testing of 13 direct hypotheses applied to employees. As results, three innovations with characteristics of disruption were identified in the literature; however, no ongoing disruptive innovations were found in the parks investigated. Managers demonstrated a good understanding of innovative behavior, although some were unfamiliar with the concept of disruptive innovation. Interaction among STP actors was recognized as necessary and essential but, in practice, was found to be limited and of low intensity. Two original scales were developed and validated—one for the construct of Innovative Behavior and another for the construct of Potential Disruptive Innovation—both demonstrating validity and reliability, with three dimensions each. Finally, a significant association was observed between innovative behavior and the potential for disruptive innovation, although this relationship proved to be complex and dependent on contextual variables. The results reinforce that STPs, despite their limitations, can play a strategic role in stimulating innovative behavior and, consequently, fostering conditions for the emergence of innovations, including those with disruptive characteristics. The contributions of this research unfold in three dimensions: theoretical, by integrating constructs that have been little explored together; methodological, by offering original instruments for measurement; and practical, by identifying management bottlenecks and opportunities in STPs. The study’s limitations include the reluctance of companies to participate in the research, the subjectivity of the instruments applied, the scarcity of specific literature, and the confidential nature of innovations, which hindered the researcher’s access to sensitive information.

The study’s limitations include the reluctance of companies to participate in the research, the subjectivity of the instruments applied, the scarcity of specific literature, and the confidential nature of innovations, which hindered the researcher’s access to sensitive information.
