Resumo: | The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, began in 2019 in China. Traumatic events can adversely affect the mental health of the population. The pandemic has instigated trauma and has imposed a significant impacto on the executive branches, and offers support for participants in the COVIDPsiqorder (PTSD), particularly among healthcare professionals. This study aimed to identify the trajectories of PTSD symptoms and their predictors within a Brazilian cohort during the first year of the pandemic. Additionally, we produced a report stemming from this dissertation, which addresses educational actions for the population, provides information tho the executive branches, and offers support for participants in the COVIDPsiq survey. In terms of scientific research, we conducted a longitudinal study with data collection facilitated through online questionnaires at four distinct stages between April 2020 and February 2021. Participants were individuals over 18 years of age, residing in Brazil, and who completed at least two stages of the survey, resulting in a final sample size of 2,973 individuals. Latent Class Growth Analysis (LCGA) was employed to identify trajectories of PTSD symptoms, and multinomial logistic regression was conducted to ascertain predictors. A five-class conditional model demonstrated the best statistical fit. The identified trajectories were as follows: class 1, “very low and stable symptoms” (37.2%); class 2, “low and increasing symptoms” (27.9%); class 3, “decreasing symptoms” (11.2%); class 4, “moderate and increasing symptoms”; and class 5, “high and increasing symptoms.” Higher levels of PTSD symptoms were consistently associated with current or previous psychiatric diagnoses, elevated COVID-related trauma, interpersonal trauma, and media-related stress. Protective factors included being a healthcare worker, possessing a higher household income, and experiencing an increase in income during the pandemic. These findings underscore the importance of recognizing vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic and highlight the urgent need for public health interventions aimed at both preventing and treating PTSD. Furthermore, this work emphasizes the importance of mental health support and the dissemination of information to local executive authorities in order to assist the population and mitigate the development of psychiatric pathologies associated with traumatic experiences. |
