The main goal of this master's thesis is to analyse the functioning, administration and distribution of the permanent municipal guard and the police guards in the territory of sao paulo province between 1834 and 1850. The starting point is linked by the promulgation of the additional act and the creation of the provincial legislative assemblies, it includes the conservative reforms of 1840 and finalizes in 1850, period generally understood as the imperial project's consolidation. It is important to emphasize that the inauguration of these forces coincides with a new logistics established in the province. The legislative assemblies inauguration caused disputes between the new center authorities and the old municipal authorities in the province. In addition, in sao paulo, the population increased, coffee and sugar growing areas were expanded and conflicts arose because of the territorial expansion. In light of this, we will analyze internal issues of the permanent municipal guard and the police guard, understanding them as part of the national state's formation and the province, as well. Thus, we will analyze how these institutions were structured at sao paulo's territory and also the political disputes and necessary agreements in the administration of these forces.
