Wood is a natural material with high resistance and a very attractive option as a structural element for different uses, either as columns, arches, beams or trusses. It has a strong tradition in covering as roofs or those more apparent and worked with great architectural appeal. To understand its application in Uberlandia, a compilation of information was made for apparent wooden roof structures, as well as a discussion of their structural arrangements, the existence or not of projects, the types of connections and its state of conservation. It was evaluated more than 20 buildings involving wood. With this diagnosis could be given recurrent details generated by standard procedure rooted in the practice of these constructions. Some theoretical and practical contributions were shown, including the structural analysis of three structures, with historical discussion. Many negative aspects observed are due to the absence of project that is not required by public agencies. There is total lack of supervision when it comes to the application of wood, which is a practice totally assimilated by professionals. Building in wood has become a free initiative, without technical control, which brings vulnerability to those buildings. It is a risk. It is necessary to change behavior promoted by government intervention agencies to define the same requirements adopted for the other materials. No structure can exist without the project.
