Much of the research with a focus on management and coordination of projects have been in offices of private projects, developers and builders. However, one must consider the fact that it is not just a private building. Among federal agencies there are the universities. With the launch of the REUNI in 2007, the volume of work at the Federal University of Viçosa - UFV increased considerably showing problems that were not previously perceived. In this context, and the lack of research into the Construction Engineering related to this issue at UFV, this study aimed to map and analyze the production process of public buildings, including the planning, execution and control, as the object study the internal bureaucratic procedures in the current process for the production of projects and works of the institution. The research was qualitative in nature, and investigation was developed relying on field research for this mapping process. Therefore, it was conducted semi structured interviews with those involved from the beginning to the end of the process, analysis of the procedures adopted by the team, analysis of documents used and produced during the process, analysis of integration between those involved. Through research it was possible to confirm the need for an update of the institution regarding the design process and execution of works and the importance of establishing a project management program to improve the quality and speed of projects and building production of the institution.
