Resumo: This study has sought to understand how the families of popular class respond to the demands of providing for the care and daily living with the bearer of mental disorder, from the Movement of the general goal that has guided this study was to analyze the socioeconomic and subjective impact brought by Brazilian psychiatric reformation on the Brazilian popular family that has among its members the bearer of mental disorder (PTM). Specifically we has sought to characterize the socioeconomic profile of the family group, the bearer of mental disorder and their principal caregivers; examine how the families recognize and elaborate the mental disorder of his family member; understand the changes occurred in relations of the family group, especially those relating to changes in family roles, arising from the outbreak of mental disorder; characterize the strategies of organization and dynamics used by families of popular class who have one of its members with mental disorder to produce the daily care to the bearer of mental disorder(PTM); examine the role of the Center for Psychosocial Care (CAPS) in connection with the bearer of the family of mental disorder; examine the role of social networks in providing care to the bearer of mental disorder and to the family group in Viçosa/MG. The review was divided into four theoretical chapters: contextualization of the political-economic landscape of Brazil to better understanding of the measures taken by the state in the reorientation of social and health policies; reconstruction of the theoretical and chronological route of the modality of assistance in the field of mental health, delineation of the trajectory of motion antimanicomial and of the psychiatric reform, socio-historical contextualization of the family relationship with the bearer of mental disorder; relationship between family, state and social reproduction, even contemplating studies on family care, social networks and social construction of the role of women. The study was conducted in a qualitative- quantitative approach using the strategy of the case study and taking as data collection techniques semi-open questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, the documentary analysis and observation. It was conducted with the families of popular class who had adult bearer of mental disorder in care with the Center for Psychosocial Care (CAPS), mental health service of public and free nature, of the district of Viçosa-MG. The sample consisted of twenty-five families for implementation of the questionnaire. Among these, we select ten families, families with different families organizations to carry out the interview. Information from the questionnaires were reviewed and reduced to descriptive terms, and then quantified by means of distribution of frequency. Information generated from interviews and diary research were analyzed based on the qualitative approach, through which we seek describe and interpret how people act and give directions to their experiences, highlighting differences between the speech of respondents. For this the testimonies were grouped according to the questions of the interview and we seek to deepen the understanding of the issues investigated through a comprehensive reading of them. It was found that the popular class families, in condition of partner in the care of the of the bearer mental disorder, have been overloaded in the socio- economic and emotional aspect. The results confirmed the assumption that the provision of care to the bearer of mental disorder is still a female charge and both the cohabitation as the provision of care creates emotional and financial overload for the caregiver, makes it difficult to enter the employment market and brings difficulties to the relationship of the family group.
