The research addresses teacher training in the context of a medium-sized city. It sought to understand how a medium-sized city approaches the continuing education of teachers, taking into account the various laws that guide Brazilian education. The general objective of this research was to understand the municipal education system of a medium-sized city, with emphasis on the continuing education of education professionals in the Municipality of Alfenas-MG. The methodology used for the development of the research was the use of a bibliographical review, documental research and application of a questionnaire. During the research it was possible to verify singularities with regard to teacher training in Alfenas-MG. At the end of the research it was possible to make some considerations. It was possible to verify disparities in conceptions of how professionals who work in the municipal education system have in relation to subjects related to continuing education. In addition, it was possible to verify the need for further research involving the theme of teacher training, especially in medium-sized cities for a better understanding of the theme.
