Resumo: In the State of Ceará, water erosion is a serious environmental problem, even in regions of the state with severe droughts and low rainfall. The irregular hydrological regime marked by high intensity rainfall combined with morphostructural and pedological characteristics and land use in the region has intensified the process of water erosion. In this scenario, estimating soil losses by modeling water erosion in the State of Ceará is an alternative to assist in proposing public policies aimed at preventing erosion and conserving soils. The hypothesis of this research is that in the Brazilian semi-arid region present in Ceará there are areas with high soil losses, even in the face of low rainfall. Ceará was chosen as the study area due to the scarcity of information on water erosion. To estimate soil losses, the Erosion Potential Method (EPM) was used with the aid of a Geographic Information System and remote sensing. The variables used in the EPM were defined based on climatic, pedological, topographic factors, land use and management, and erosive features. The estimated average soil loss was 9.7 Mg ha -1 year - 1 and the study showed that in 38% of the State of Ceará there was soil loss above the soil loss tolerance limits. These sites are located mainly in non-vegetated, crop and pasture areas. The research results are important to identify priority areas for the adoption of measures to mitigate erosion processes and for the elaboration of sustainable public policies for soil and water conservation.

O regime hidrológico irregular marcado por precipitações de alta intensidade aliadas às características morfoestruturais e pedológicas e ao uso do solo na região tem intensificado o processo de erosão hídrica. Nesse cenário, estimar as perdas de solo pela modelagem da erosão hídrica do Estado do Ceará é uma alternativa para auxiliar na proposição de políticas públicas que visem a prevenção da erosão e a conservação dos solos. A hipótese desta pesquisa é de que na região do semiárido brasileiro presente no Ceará existem áreas com elevadas perdas de solo, mesmo diante de baixos índices pluviométricos. O Ceará foi escolhido como área de estudo pela escassez de informações relativas à erosão hídrica. Para estimar as perdas de solo foi utilizado o Método de Erosão Potencial (EPM) com auxílio de Sistema de Informações Geográficas e de sensoriamento remoto. As variáveis utilizadas no EPM foram definidas a partir dos fatores climáticos, pedológicos, topográficos, uso e manejo da terra e pelas feições erosivas. A perda de solo média estimada foi de 9,7 Mg ha -1 ano -1 e o estudo demonstrou que em 38% do Estado do Ceará houve perda de solo acima dos limites de tolerância de perda de solo. Estes locais estão situados principalmente nas áreas não vegetadas, de cultivos e de pastagens. Os resultados da pesquisa são importantes para identificar áreas prioritárias para adoção de medidas mitigadoras dos processos erosivos e para elaboração de políticas públicas sustentáveis de conservação dos solos e das águas.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais - FAPEMIGapplication/pdfporUniversidade Federal de AlfenasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Ciências AmbientaisUNIFAL-MGBrasilInstituto de Ciências da Naturezainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Método de Erosão Potencial (EPM)ErosãoSemiárido brasileiroGEOLOGIA::GEOLOGIA AMBIENTALModelagem da erosão hídrica do Estado do Ceará, Brasilinfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion45422636031111392106006006005726786892027637820-1527361517405938873reponame:Repositório Institucional da Universidade Federal de Alfenas - RiUnifalinstname:Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL)instacron:UNIFALSouza, Alvanil Miranda DeLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
