O futebol na crônica de Josué Guimarães : a sociedade em campo

Resumo: Soccer is a serious thing and is constituted in and out of the pitch! Present in Brazilian life, either as entertainment or as an alienating tool, the British sport is directly connected to the whole society and the population's sense of nationalism. Based on this assumption, we started the process of selecting 10 columns by Josué Guimarães, a Brazilian writer from the State of Rio Grande do Sul, published in newspapers of Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul in the 1950s and 1970s in order to assess how he used soccer as a basis for comparisons, reflections and social criticism in his time. Along the way, we present football and its different visions, address journalistic practices and the peculiarities of the sportswriter's work, reflect on what is or is not literary, enter the universe of genres and scrutinize the chronicle, genre chosen by this southern Brazilian writer for uniting literature and journalism in order to expose his thoughts, ideas and positions on his contemporary reality. We contextualize the political and social events that marked the times of production of journalistic chronicles to then dive into the world of soccer, politics and society, identifying and analyzing how Josué Guimarães aproximated and joined these issues in his productions. With the ball rolling, we achieved the goal of identifying ironies, double meanings and textual articulations that are only possible to those who have mastered the art of allocating in the same place reality and fiction, goal and vote, midfielder and president

Presente na vida do brasileiro, seja como entretenimento ou como ferramenta alienadora, o esporte bretão está diretamente ligado a toda sociedade e ao sentimento de nacionalismo da população. Partindo desse pressuposto, iniciamos o caminho de selecionar 10 crônicas do escritor gaúcho Josué Guimarães, publicadas em jornais do Rio de Janeiro e do Rio Grande do Sul nas décadas de 1950 e 1970, a fim de avaliar de que forma ele utilizou o futebol como base para comparações, reflexões e críticas sociais em sua época. Ao longo do percurso, apresentamos o futebol e suas diferentes visões, passamos pelo fazer jornalístico e as peculiaridades do trabalho do jornalista esportivo, refletimos sobre o que é ou não literário, entramos no universo dos gêneros textuais e esmiuçamos a crônica, gênero escolhido pelo escritor gaúcho para unir literatura e jornalismo a fim de expor seus pensamentos, ideias e posições quanto à realidade que foi contemporânea. Situamos devidamente os acontecimentos políticos e sociais que marcava as épocas de produções das crônicas jornalísticas para, então, mergulharmos no universo do futebol, da política e da sociedade, identificando e analisando de que forma Josué Guimarães aproximou e uniu estes assuntos em suas produções.
