This research aims to implement actions that integrate the methodology of the research and development of distance education, emphasizing the critical education of children and youth of Basic Education. By performing the experiment implemented by the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, named: Project Shows Scientific, Professional and Technical, this text discusses the contributions that research and provide distance education in the process of knowledge construction. Therefore, initially we carried out a literature review, which emphasized the discussion of today's society, the construction of knowledge, education in the context of the twenty-first century and the role of technology in this reality. This bias is presented as an alternative research, which coupled with technological resources such as distance education, may contribute to a critical education and citizenship. After the literature review, the project was implemented and analyzed the survey data field, which is configured on experience with basic education students, based on data collected through questionnaires and observations, where it was possible to detect the contributions that the methodology of the research and development of distance education, provided the role in the construction of knowledge and citizenship education.
