Resumo: The construction industry faces challenges in keeping pace with the rapid changes brought about by the advent of new digital technologies. Approaches to the use of automation, originating from Industry 4.0, in construction industry processes are still in their infancy. Through the use of artificial intelligence and communication systems, the capacity for collaboration between humans and robots has increased, allowing them to work in different production environments. In this context, it is essential to examine the extent to which digital technological innovations can influence business competitiveness, the future of work, and social dynamics within the construction industry. The objective of this study is to analyze the impact of digital technologies and Industry 4.0 on the perceptions of senior management and employees in companies that utilize traditional, off-site, and modular construction methods in the building sector of the construction industry. To this end, the following specific objectives were established: to survey the state of the art on the impacts of digital technologies and Industry 4.0 on companies and workers in the general manufacturing industry, the construction industry, and the building subsector, through a systematic literature review (chapters 2 and 3); to identify the perceptions of senior management representatives regarding the impacts of the insertion of Digital Technologies in the building subsector of the construction industry (chapters 3 and 4); identify company employees’ perceptions regarding these impacts (chapters 3 and 4); analyze the differences in perceptions among different groups formed by the characteristics of the respondents and the companies participating in the survey (chapter 5); compare the results of the conceptual frameworks with the perceptions obtained from the analysis of the textual corpus; and propose requirements to mitigate possible negative impacts (chapter 5). The literature review reveals that numerous studies have examined the impact of digital technologies and Industry 4.0 on the manufacturing industry as a whole. However, a research gap exists when it comes to specifically analyzing their impacts on the Civil Construction sector, especially in the building subsector. Data collection was conducted at companies operating with traditional (n = 3), off-site (n = 2), and modular (n = 2) construction systems, located in the cities of Curitiba, Cascavel, and Ivoti, in Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. Lexical and content analyses were conducted based on semi-structured interviews with senior management representatives (n = 7) and employees, distributed across 12 focus groups (n = 40). To assess the influence of the companies’ organizational climate on interview responses, a new variable was included, investigated through a questionnaire (n = 46). The research results provide relevant information for researchers, managers in the building sector, construction professionals, and public policymakers to analyze the effects of implementing digital technologies in the sector. Furthermore, the study presents contributions and guidelines that can guide future research.

Furthermore, the study presents contributions and guidelines that can guide future research.
