The adaptation of literary works to TV series isn’t anything new, leading to questions regarding the framework used in this transposition. Adaption and intermidiality have been the focus of many previous studies which have been used to answer such questions. The process involving the media transposition is relatively common by today’s standards, this process, nonetheless, implies a wide range of analysis. While adapting a novel to a TV series format, there’s a strong need to suit languages and themes to current standards. To understand the adapting process of a 19th century novel to a modern-day TV series is thought-provoking, to say the least. Therefore, this paper aims to explore how the character Anne of Green Gables has been developed in the TV series by the screenwriter and producer Moira Walley-Beckett and the firstseason directors, to reveal the feminist role of the character. Furthermore, through the analysis of theorical framework, this research also focuses on the changes on language and themes on the TV series, made to suit today’s context, providing an in depth look of language and ethical values adapting, considering the different audiences of the TV show and the original novel. This research uses as a theorical framework Simone de Beauvoir (1960), on feminism; Linda Hutcheon (1991, 2013), on adapting; Claus Clüver (2006, 2007 e 2011) on intermidiality and intermidiality analysis; among others. This paper, therefore, analyses the novel Anne of Green Gables – vol. 1, by Lucy Maud Montgomery, originally published in 1908, and the first season of its TV series version Anne with and E, produced by the Canadian network CBC along with streaming platform Netflix, in 2017. The first season here allows a deep analysis over feminine and themes regarding mediatic transposition.
