Resumo: | Music is one of several artistic expressions, and music produced in Brazil, particularly Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), is recognized internationally. Brasília, the country’s capital, is one of the places where music is produced and contributes to enriching MPB. Many of its representatives have gained national and international recognition, while others have built their careers within the city and remained there, as discussed in this thesis. The general objective of this research is to investigate, from the perspective of representatives from the first generations of musicians in the Central Plateau, the challenges they faced as musicians, their expectations, and their perceptions of ageism in music. The specific objectives are: to describe the current social and economic conditions of the studied sample; to identify the existence or absence of age-related prejudice toward musicians according to the sample's opinions; and to report the opinions of female musicians in the sample regarding the existence or not of age-related prejudice in the music industry. To achieve this, an exploratory and descriptive mixed-methods research approach was used. The inclusion criteria were: musicians (both male and female) aged 60 or older, who established their musical careers within the Federal District, reside in the Federal District, and work in popular music. The exclusion criteria were: being under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the interview, not being in the Federal District at the time of data collection, and not completing all phases of the research. The sample was nonprobabilistic, selected through convenience sampling via snowball methodology. A total of 28 people participated in the study—23 men and 5 women. The data collection instruments included a sociodemographic questionnaire to analyze the sample's profile as a quantitative tool, and a semi-structured interview as a qualitative tool, aimed at obtaining responses regarding the difficulties encountered, expectations, and perceptions of the participants about ageism in music. Quantitative analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, while qualitative analysis was performed using the content analysis technique proposed by Bardin. Among the main findings, it was identified that, according to the sample, musicians face career obstacles ranging from lack of recognition, poor working conditions, and insufficient support to difficulties in dealing with technology, financial issues, and self-imposed expectations. Despite this scenario, the participants reported having dreams and projects for the future, with the desire to continue working in music being the most prominent. Furthermore, this group expressed a desire to experience old age with quality of life and health, with positive family and social relationships prevailing. The group's perception is that ageism exists in the music field in a multifaceted way, sometimes being manifested against the musicians themselves. Finally, it was found that the women in the sample understand that ageism exists in the music scene, which results in greater harm to female musicians. |

Submitted by Ihorranna Oliveira (ihorranna.oliveira@ucb.br) on 2025-02-27T21:02:34Z No. of bitstreams: 1 PaulaMacedoTeseParcial2024.pdf: 327782 bytes, checksum: 29cca0ccce344d2fa8e014de08f47f98 (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Sara Ribeiro (sara.ribeiro@ucb.br) on 2025-03-07T18:53:21Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 PaulaMacedoTeseParcial2024.pdf: 327782 bytes, checksum: 29cca0ccce344d2fa8e014de08f47f98 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2025-03-07T18:53:22Z (GMT).
