This research focused on understanding the symbolic and aesthetic dimensions present in the narratives of candidates preparing for Public Service Examination in legal careers who have been studying for five years or more without any success. The specific objectives were: a) to interpret, from a psychoanalytic perspective, the symbolic productions present in the study narratives of the participants and connect them to their life histories; b) to identify and describe the presence of aesthetic productions related to the ethos of public service examinations (relationships with peers and teachers, handling study materials, experiencing the rhythm of study, and engaging with the discourse of the competitive examination world) and to understand how this aesthetic integrates into the participants' daily lives. To achieve these objectives, a bibliographic study was first conducted on the symbolic dimension, the aesthetic dimension, and the understanding of psychic functioning within psychoanalysis. Subsequently, a qualitative interpretive study was carried out using Narrative Analysis. The research instrument used was a narrative interview conducted with two participants who met the eligibility criteria. The interpretation of the narratives revealed that the study trajectory symbolizes fundamental aspects of the participants’ lives; it represents episodes experienced before the beginning of their study journey; and that the study routine encompasses an aesthetic that signifies a structural place in time and space and a lifestyle.
