It addresses Information Literacy, understanding it as essential in the process of searching for, appropriating, and making effective and efficient use of information. It was applied in the context of the multi-level library of the Federal Institute of Paraíba (IFPB), Cajazeiras Campus, with the aim of developing information skills in the users of the Multi-level Library. It analysed how the informational needs and difficulties of multi-level library users contributed to the development of the library’s Information Literacy programme/action for the students of IFPB, Cajazeiras Campus. The theoretical framework considered the identification of the main national and international guidelines and concepts that provide practical support for the development of Information Literacy programmes, taking into account the subjectivities and specificities of the application field. This research is characterised as applied in nature, employing a descriptive method, exploratory analysis, and a qualitative approach, conducted through action research. An online questionnaire was administered to 100 student users, 61% of whom were undergraduate students. The research results indicated that students demonstrate familiarity and ease with digital technologies, which aligns with the profile of digital natives. However, this fluency in the use of technology does not translate into competence in the efficient use of information from its various sources and formats, since, as the results show, the information sources most used by students lack any rigour regarding the credibility of the information. It was concluded that, within the scope of the multi-level library, the level of Information Literacy among users is not linear, with undergraduate and postgraduate students being more competent than secondary and technical education students. In this regard, the development of an Information Literacy programme for a multi-level audience should be planned according to the specific needs of each level, having as its backdrop the fluidity of the connected world, accessible language, the context of digital media and Artificial Intelligence, anchored in a flexible approach through active methodologies so that learning can be better assimilated.
