Resumo: Osteosarcoma is a highly aggressive malignant bone tumor that has an unfavorable prognosis. The treatment of choice is surgical intervention associated with systemic chemotherapy. However, the chemotherapeutic agents currently employed have several adverse effects on patients that limit their use. Thus, research aimed at new alternatives to the treatment of this cancer is of paramount importance. This study aimed to evaluate, in vitro, the cytotoxic potential of extracts from leaves of gabirobeira in osteosarcoma cells. From the leaves of this plant, the crude ethanolic extract and ethyl acetate were extracted. The cells were cultured and treated with both extracts at different concentrations and at predetermined exposure times. Cell cytotoxicity was analyzed by the Tripan blue exclusion assay and the IC50 calculated by the tetrazolium reduction method. The crude extract presented higher cytotoxicity compared to acetate, and the best result was in the 1.0μL/mL group treated for 48 hours. In addition, the IC50 value for G48 is within the range suggested as the best cytotoxicity. Finally, extracts of the leaves of the gabirobeira presented cytotoxic action in the cells of in vitro osteosarcoma.

O tratamento de escolha é a intervenção cirúrgica associada à quimioterapia sistêmica. Entretanto, os quimioterápicos empregados atualmente possuem diversos efeitos adversos aos pacientes que limitam o seu uso. Assim, pesquisas que visam novas alternativas ao tratamento desse câncer são de suma importância. Com este estudo, objetivou-se avaliar, in vitro, o potencial citotóxico de extratos das folhas da gabirobeira em células de osteossarcoma. A partir das folhas dessa planta, foi extraído o extrato etanólico bruto e acetato de etila. As células foram cultivadas e tratadas com ambos os extratos em diferentes concentrações e tempos de exposição pré-determinados. Foi analisada a citotoxicidade celular por meio do ensaio de exclusão do azul de Tripan e calculado o IC50 pelo método de redução dotetrazólio. O extrato bruto apresentou maior citotoxicidade em comparação com o acetato, sendo o melhor resultado no grupo tratado com 1,0μL/mL durante 48 horas. Ademais, o valor do IC50 para o G48 situa-se no intervalo sugerido como melhor citotoxicidade.
