South Africa was marked by a long period of exploration and colonization which significantly modified its history, and even nowadays the country keeps the consequences of that age. During the 20th century South Africa underwent a racial segregation period that constituted another injury in the country's history. Gem Squash Tokoloshe (2005), authored by South-African Rachel Zadok, has a narrative that begins during the declaration of the State of Emergency, which happened in the last moments of apartheid. During this research the imaginary maps of apartheid were highlighted, as they are drawn by Zadok in her narrative. The approach taken is based on post-colonial and decolonial theories in their relationship with literature.
