The project “The contextualization of documentary heritage in the ecclesiastical archives of the Legion of Mary - Senatus Our Lady of the Conception of Santa Maria through oral history” was developed within the scope of the Professional Graduate Program in Cultural Heritage of the Federal University of Santa Maria, in the line of research Documentary Heritage Archives. The project was characterized as an applied research and its main objective was to identify the documents of textual and iconographic genre existing in the ecclesiastical collection of the Legion of Mary to understand the existing patrimonial context, corroborated with oral history, gathered in a selective catalog. To achieve this goal, the documents were organized and selected, establishing a time frame between 1970 and 1990, totaling a sample of 214 photographs, of which 17 were selected to build the catalog. With the selected photographs, several people linked to the Legion of Mary were interviewed in order to establish a more accurate form of description for the selective catalog. It was concluded that the use of oral history methodology contributed to the process of description and construction of the selective catalog, since countless personalities, places and events were better described by direct observation of the research participants.
