Resumo: As one of the most influential writers of his time, William Faulkner has left a legacy of novels that sets us before the man in his truest state: a man tormented by a past that haunts and will haunt him as long as there is present. Because the man is the sum of his misfortunes, said one of the characters from The Sound and The Fury (1929) - a novel this study will focus. Under the space-time theories, the present study will shed light on the four characters that narrate the four chapters of the book in order to highlight the possible existence of a "feeling of ruin" in each of them, leading them to an "antagonism" against themselves. In this way, leading to "tragic ends" of those characters. Based on the theories of space by Brandão (2013) and Lins (1976) among others; theories of time by Moisés (2006) and Richardson (2012); and Bakhtin's time-space (2012), the research aims to discuss if it is possible for a character to find an end in himself from the context and, consequently, from the time it inhabits. The present study aims to reveal how this feeling is built.

Sob o viés espaço-temporal, o presente estudo será focado nos quatro personagens-narradores dos quatro respectivos capítulos do livro com o intuito de ressaltar a possível existência de um “sentimento de ruína” em cada um deles, os levando a um “antagonismo” contra si mesmos. Dessa forma, acarretando em “fins trágicos”. Embasado com as teorias de espaço de Brandão (2013) e Lins (1976) entre outros; as de tempo de Moisés (2006) e Richardson (2012); e, por fim, as de tempo-espaço de Bakhtin (2012), a pesquisa tem como pretensão discutir se é possível um personagem encontrar um fim em si mesmo a partir do contexto e, consequentemente, do tempo que habita.
