Oral cancer is a major health condition since has a mortality rate of 3 % to 10 % worldwide, with most cases diagnosed in advanced stages are presented. Late diagnosis of oral cancer is one of the main factors that impact the prognosis and patient survival. Many advances have occurred in the field of oncology and still carcinomas of the head and neck continue with high rates of morbidity and mortality. The cyclin D1 and Ki-67 are biological markers that stand out in the current research probably related to tumor progression. Among the proposed objectives, this study aimed to evaluate the expression of these markers by immunohistochemistry and correlate them with clinical and morphological data in squamous cell carcinomas of the tongue. In 30 patients, 9 (30 %) died from the disease, 7 (23.3 %) are alive with active disease and 14 (46.7 %) were alive without disease activity . Among the statistical analysis, was observed that the higher the T, the greater the chances of recurrence and lower the probability of disease-free survival. The T stage also showed possible association with the cyclin D1 and Ki -67. The higher the count of markers was worse overall survival and disease-free survival and overall survival is inversely related to T and N staging. Emphasize, therefore, the importance of TNM staging for the monitoring of squamous cell carcinomas of the tongue and attention to the positive relationship between the expression of these markers with worse patient survival.
