Resumo: | This Ph. D. Thesis, seeking to contribute to Lusophone studies, proposes to discuss the role of Portuguese language as an identity element of the Mozambican people, as well as the concept of Lusophony. Therefore, this scientific work has as research goals (1) to discuss the concepts attributed to the term Lusophony, seeking to identify and relate the most suitable for the proposal of this research; (2) to address the concept of identity and linguistic identity; (3) to verify if there are features that delineate a Lusophone identity; (4) to historically and linguistically contextualize Mozambique; (5) to determine whether Mozambicans identify themselves with Portuguese language and whether they feel represented by it. The theoretical universe compiled on Lusophony and Identity was based respectively on Brito and Martins (2002, 2004 and 2005), Cristóvão (2008), Lourenço (2001) and Rosário (2007 and 2012); and Bauman (2005), Mattoso (1998), Hall (2006). In order to address the historical-linguistic context of Mozambique, we have referred to Mozambican researchers Firmino (2002), Lopes (1997, 2002 and 2004) and Gonçalves (1997 and 2007). Research methodology was based not only on the literature review through reflective reading of books, journals and specialized websites on Lusophony, Identity and Mozambique but also on on-site research. Field research was conducted through interviews with open and closed questions, and 11 Mozambicans teachers were interviewed, constituting the corpus of this study, which is divided into five chapters. The first chapter reports the choice of the subject, the objectives, the research trajectory and the final structure of the thesis. The second chapter addresses, respectively, the basic concepts on Lusophony and Identity. The historical-linguistic context of Mozambique is presented on the third chapter. The fourth chapter is dedicated to corpus analysis. The last chapter, based on analysis results, points the Portuguese language as an identity element of the Mozambican people, although the sense of belonging to the Lusophone world is not as evident in Mozambique. |
