A justiça restaurativa não corresponde a um sistema punitivo, uma vez que proporciona às pessoas envolvidas a possibilidade de conciliação e diálogo. Foi realizada pesquisa bibliográfica e de campo, do tipo estudo de caso, com abordagem qualitativa. A pesquisa bibliográfica traz as raízes históricas, sociais e teológicas do sistema jurídico. A pesquisa de campo foi realizada na Comarca de Teresina, com o objetivo de verificar como está sendo implantada a justiça restaurativa, bem como conhecer as dificuldades vivenciadas pela equipe do círculo restaurativo. Os objetivos foram exploratórios, e como instrumento de coleta de dados, foi empregado questionário do tipo misto. A partir das observações realizadas, pode-se auferir que em nove anos vivenciando esta realidade, a justiça piauiense enfrenta dificuldades que vão desde o conhecimento da população até a vivência do círculo em sua intensidade. Concluiu-se que avanços foram alcançados, mas ainda há muito desafios a serem superados.The research proposed has as its theme restorative justice, which corresponds to a new paradigm which aims at humanizing and recovering damages stemming from crimes suffered. Restorative justice does not correspond to punitive system since it offers the people involved the possibility of conciliation and dialog. Bibliographic and field research of the case study type, were carried out with a qualitative approach. The bibliographic research presents the historical, social and theological roots of the legal system. The field research was carried out in the Teresina judicial district, with the goal of verifying how restorative justice is being implanted, as well as getting to know the difficulties experienced by the team of the restorative circle. The goals were explorative, and as an instrument for collecting data a mixed type of questionnaire was used. Based on the observations carried out one can perceive that in nine years experiencing this reality, the Piauí justice system is confronting difficulties which go from the knowledge of the population to the experience of the circle in its intensity.
